The January Wait

While waiting for lambs, I’ve spent a little time with the little sample of wool I obtained when Mary crutched the sheep last week.  This is what I started with:

And this is what I made from the tiny sample of wool above, using the spinning wheel my grandfather my grandfather refashioned from a few old pieces of a wheel he found at the transfer station, and recently restored for me:

I combined the white and black wool and it made a nifty earthy brown-grey that I like.  That said, you can see from this sample, I’m planning to leave the yarn-spinning to the pros.  I just wanted to see what the wool would make.  The yarn is really soft.

Meanwhile, the girls are just hanging out in the barn, eating hay and getting wide:
