I don’t think I’ve gone this long without posting since I started this blog back in 2012!
We’ve seen some big changes at Sheep and Pickle Farm in the last two months. I have seldom used this blog to discuss anything personal, but I’m going to do so now because it relates to the business. Sheep and Pickle Farm is now solely my (Katie’s) enterprise. Jaska and I have amicably ended our relationship, and Jaska has moved out. It was a tough decision, but a necessary one, and we’re both sad but also relieved and feeling a little freer.
This change does somewhat change the trajectory of the sheep enterprise. Due to the division of obligations on the farm, I’m not going to be able to expand the flock this fall and I might even have to shrink it somewhat. I will continue to have the sheep, no matter what, but I can see that there may be more big changes to come.
One of the biggest changes: Have you ever wanted to actually *live* on a sheep farm? Well, I’m going to need a roommate for the creaky old farmhouse. It’s cold in temperature but warm in spirit. Contact me personally if you are interested in hearing the particulars.
Meanwhile, the meat lambs have reached full size. I need to decide soon when I’m breeding the sheep, and find a ram for Earl’s daughters. I’m very, very disappointed that both Lester and Merle, the two bottle lambs, are very lean and really failing to gain weight effectively. I’m thinking I need to call the vet and cough up the money.
I’ve turned off comments for this post – Just be assured that Jaska and I are both okay, and we’re each moving on in our own ways.
